niners bomberman - champion
Friday, February 10, 2012 @ 11:24 PM
8th of Feb 2012 marks the end of all the hard work for this academic year. all the time and effort put into cheerleading, all the injuries suffered. team niners. a team with the bare minimum number of cheerleaders, put up our show at SRC. with just 16 people on the mats, we couldn't have done much without the utmost support from the greatest hall supporters ever.
this year has been tough. with a severe lack of trainings due to the new rule of having to end trainings at 11pm, i cant express how stressful it was. the lack of confidence was. scary. the number of injuries this year was also terrible, with more and more injuries as the competition neared. imagine having a stunt not being tried on and confirmed for 1 or 2 weeks, and only confirmed the day before the competition? yes. we did. been there, done that, and i tell u, its not fun. i dun think we had a fully ASU routine till the rehearsal on the day itself? its that scary. we were that unprepared. but still, all the hardwork that we put in, was never going to go down the drain.
at around 7.15pm, team niners stepped into SRC hall, and put up a great show! the ASU routine sent us jumping and screaming with pride. cause that was all that we ever asked for. we were a small team, with just one IVP, who even injured herself during the routine. and we had many many injuries, even on the day itself. ASU. the best we ever wanted. viewing other halls performances sent us going "wow". "so high". "so pro". all these came from the bottom of our hearts i swear. cause seriously, team niners wasnt out to win the competition. like our coach told us before we went for the competition, just go in and have fun! that's all that we wanted. and im sure the whole team did have fun. so there, we met our objectives.
when the results were being announced, our much coveted best mascot award went to hall 1. our moods were down. cause my captain spent countless nights doing up the whole mascot. right from idea generation to the actual piecing up of everything. the poppers, the LED lights, the spraying gas, and the whole structure itself, is the epitome of hard work. that lost was. truly upsetting. and then we hoped for the best banner, but again, we lost to our greatest competitor, hall 8. after that, we didnt hold anymore hopes. cause that two awards were what we really hoped for. we even discussed who was to go up to receive the award if we won. so as the results went on to be announced, i guess we didnt exactly feel anymore sadness? with no expectations. and when hall 13 was announced as 2nd, it send us all into confusion. we really felt that they were great! guesses went around abt hall 7 and 16 being the champs. and when the emcees asked who do u think is the champion, no one in the team shouted i believe. though we could hear hall 9 supporters shouting. but we were truly not expecting anything, just getting ready to pack up and go.
but that said, i guess it was this unexpected result that sent us all into utter surprise. all the screams came and we went jumping around, hugging everyone. that happiness cannot be described. tears just went flowing out of many of our eyes, cause we couldnt contain the happiness. it was like a state of disbelief. many of us went like "we won? its us?". but since it was announced, it was a fact. we won the favour of the judges. the fact is that our stunts aint as impressive or difficult as other halls, but probably the new scoring system pushed us up a notch. and we won! champions now we are.(:
however, this championship sent loads of criticism and anger from other halls. from the comments on our video to what we hear from our peers/tutors, i really felt disheartened. it was as if niners won the champion title unfairly. like we dun deserve it. but it was just the judges way of rewarding us for our hard work. so who is it to judge and say that we dun deserve it? the scores are out to show. we won fair and square. every hall did their best at the show, and the judges were the ones to decide who deserves the title. since hall 9 was given that glory, why cant others just accept it?
now that we are the champion, many might think that we would try to carry on and maintain this championship next year, do all we can to get it etc. but no. team niners dun work that way. we still uphold the tradition of having fun, enjoying ourselves, being a family, and simply putting up a good show for all. champions or not, we are equally happy, so long as we put in our best, and leave the mats with no regrets. that's the hall 9 cheerleading spirit. probably something that other halls dont have and dun agree. but that's why there is the hall 9 legacy: the rest don't have it.
hall 9, a hall unique on its own. a family of all. the greatest supporters of the night.
and team niners, my pride, my glory, my family. <3<3<3
B-O-M,B-E-R say let's go BOMBERMAN!
